New butterfly table to expand production of timber frames

14th February 2016

We’ve taken delivery of a new £40,000 piece of kit that will allow us to further expand our production of timber frames, as well as doubling our production capacity for spandrel panels.

As part of our continued capital investment strategy as roof truss manufacturers, we’ve invested in the state-of-the-art butterfly table from Shropshire Engineering Specialist, AV Birch.

The first of its kind to be manufactured by AV Birch in the UK, the  table will allow our manufacturing team at Fencehouse to quickly and safely turn huge timber frames and spandrel panels, replacing the use of cranes.

Director Steve Harris said: “As we continue to grow, so does our product offering; we’re pleased to now offer customers a complete off-site manufacturing solution for timber frames, roof trusses, spandrel panels and joists.

“The new butterfly table will help us keep up with the UK construction industry’s increasing demand for pre-fabricated and off-site manufactured products.”

AV Birch’s Timber Engineering Director Scott Heyes said: “The butterfly table is unique. It features an innovative roller system, which seamlessly moves the panels off the table and onto a set of wheels, for easy transportation into the holding area. It’s a clever mechanism that removes the need for forklift trucks and speeds up the overall production process for timber product manufacturers.”

Fencehouse Roof Truss Company manufactures roof trusses for major house and commercial builders across the UK, including Taylor Wimpey and Persimmon Homes. Recent work has included major projects for Travelodge at Manchester and Birmingham Airports. The company, which began trading with three staff and two machines in 2008, now employs more than 20 staff, has 10 machines and in 2016 turned over more than £2 million.
